I brought some clothes to change into for when I am not at work. Street clothes – or civilian clothes as us professional bastards call’em. Just your basic stuff, but what’s important here is, as my biking clothes become more tattered and foul-smelling through the days, I will have a relatively cleaner set of clothes to put on when “going out for a night on the town”. The list is quite simple:
- Pair of Jeans
- Hat
- T-Shirt
- Boxer Shorts
- Pair of Heavy Socks
- Bathing Suit (for Italian showers in the lake)

Just wondering. Are you rethinking the civies to lighten the load a bit? I found that some light nylon or softshell pants worked great on or off the bike. A synthetic T can pull double duty too.
You got it. I just picked up a light pair of hiking pants that convert to shorts. The jeans are just too heavy and never dry once wet. Also shedding the bathing suit as the hiking shorts are fast drying. I’m going with a lighter t-shirt too, but still cotton. More due to the fact that I don’t want to buy anything else right now, but may switch to synthetic on the road. I dropped my cotton boxer shorts as I had 3 sets of Techwick set aside for biking and only need 2. The third will serve as non-biking. In all, I found I could easily clean my clothes each night either in a sink or shower and they would be dry by morning, so 2 pairs in rotation is all I need.
I’ll be doing a full post that includes all my changes.
