Day -18: The Gloves

Originally I wasn’t going to bring gloves, but having rode my bike in the rain I have found that, without gloves, the grip on a wet handlebar is tenuous at best. Gloves provide several other benefits, including warmth for the cold morning starts and cushion to alleviate pressure on the Ulnar and Median nerves (which builds in in your hands due to leaning forward on the bike). The two main drawbacks from using gloves are that you will get a bad tan line in relation to exposed arms and fingers and you will look really stupid.  Honestly, the only other people that wear gloves with the fingers cut off are weightlifters, and nothing looks more stupid than a cocksure weightlifter.

The gloves that I purchased are the Pearl Izumi “Select”. The most important aspect of these for me, as a vegan, is that they don’t contain any leather. Also, they are inexpensive. Other aspects that you want to look for in a glove include ventilation and durability. I’ll let you know how these hold up.
