When at campground, as I am now, my posts will be short in order to conserve phone battery. Had trail mix for dinner last night because Inn’s bistro was closed and Danbury has nothing except a sketchy gas station that looks like a shut-in runs it and from which, across the street, about 20 drunk people were sitting at 2 PM. They occasionally got up to buy beer from the shut-in. As a result I felt sick and weak. Inn owner made me oatmeal in the morning and I also had a banana and Apple. Left shortly after. Nice owner, he actually did some bike touring back in the day to.

Didn’t do much of the North Rail Trail today because much of it was gravel and hard on the tires. Instead took route 4 from Danbury to Lebanon. Got a good lentil burger in town at a natural food store. Owner is a beer nut and the store had good beer and homebrew supplies. I grabbed a pint of McNeIl’s Oatmeal Stout then continued on. Crossed the VT border today despite a sick stomach. Started to feel better once the burger hit then I rode like a banshee to the White River Campground in Gaysville VT. Cooking dinner now and enjoying my beer. I included a photo of the White River, to which I pay homage. I followed this bastards the entire route in VT, in a pretty level valley surrounded by huge mountains.

About 63 miles today. Tomorrow I cross over the Middlebury Pass to the other side of the Green Mountains.
