We didn’t make Brunswick, but we f@%king tried. Arrived in Bath having traveled 46 miles and passed by a Hampton Inn and, maybe it was the second flat tire this morning that did it, maybe it was 3 harrowing days on route 1 being passed by semis and Mass vacationers at 65 mph, maybe it was the incorrect directions on this $11 map that added another mile to the trip, or maybe it was the possibility of showering and sucking down a few cold beers, but I just pulled into the parking lot, checked in, and am now kicked back ready to go out for a night on the town with my beautiful soon- to-be wife.
Bad news first, Brunswick was essential to hit today, due to the fact that there ain’t nothing between Brunswick and the next stop (Naples) but a long stretch of 45 miles and no services. Tomorrow is calling for thunderstorms, so we might not have risked the ride anyway. Instead, we might do a short 9 mile ride tomorrow to Brunswick and spend a day resting there. Naples will be the next day, but we won’t make Conway seeing that, at that point we’ll be getting married in 2 days, so need some time to prepare.
Aside from that, saw some good views today and had a great meal at the Kennebec Tavern here in Bath. My body is feeling the pain now of 3 days on the road in the direct sun. I had thought that 10 hours a day sitting at a computer would have prepared me for 60-80 miles a day. All that behind-the-desk training for 8 years for nothing.
I included a photo of the suspension bridge Chilly and I crossed coming into Bath during heavy daytime traffic while it was under construction with no road surface. That may have been the kick that finally broke my balls today.

I thought for sure your day job would have prepared you for this trip. How disappointing!
